To freeze a spreadable goat cheese, you can freeze it in the original container by placing plastic wrap directly onto the spread. Then, place the lid to the container on top. This stops the cheese from being freezer burned. Label and date and the cheese and place it in the freezer. To thaw this type of goat cheese, remove from the freezer and place it in the refrigerator for several hours or overnight. Once completely thawed, remove plastic wrap and stir cheese to return it to its origin creamy consistency if it’s a little bit watery.
How to freeze goat cheese?
Traditional goat cheese logs can also be frozen, although they may not be pretty enough to present at your next wine and cheese. The outside part of the log can become a bit mushy, while the inside gets a bit more crumbly after being frozen and then thawed. Freezing won’t change the quality or the flavour however. This type of goat cheese is perfect for using in recipes or for crumbling over salads or burgers.
To freeze a traditional goat cheese log, decide whether you are likely to use the whole amount at one time, or if it makes more sense for you to freeze it in smaller pieces. Wrap individual pieces of goat cheese in a double layer of plastic wrap to protect it against freezer burn. Then, place the wrapped goat cheese in a freezer bag.
